Transition between tetradhedral and hexahedral meshes
Hello,
this is not an issue with Gmsh itself but rather a question concerning mesh transitions. I could not find any solutions online so far so I am asking the question here.
I am aware that the transition between tetrahedral and hexahedral meshes can be done with pyramid elements using the Delaunay algorithm. However the solver that I want to use (Calculix) does not offer support for these elements.
Is there another way that I could connect the two meshes? Would it be possible to split the pyramids into tetrahedral elements as shown in the following picture?
I have tried the MMG3D algorithm which eliminated the pyramid elements but there is an undesired hanging node introduced in the center of the elements.
Here is a test file where I have tested the transition using pyramid elements: Hybrid_mesh.geo
The initial goal was to achieve a hexahedral mesh refinement. I used the tetrahedral mesh as a transition.
Thanks for your help.
