Slim faces/parts meshing
Hello,
I'm trying to mesh a very long part. Basically, it is a tapered profile extrusion where the extrusion is much longer then the profiles size. Meshing works fine until the resolution is set too small. It then only creates very anisotropic surface triangles and 3D meshing fails often thereafter due to Error : Invalid boundary mesh (overlapping facets)
which makes sense as some of the resulting triangles seem to be almost fully degenerated. Is there an option or a way with which I can properly mesh this?
I tried all surface algorithms. The length of the part is larger than the perspective in the below image suggests. I used the Windows version 4.8.4.
the step file of the part freecad.step
element size: 0.05, Delaunay
element size: 0.01, Delaunay
element size: 0.01, Frontal-Delaunay
element size: 0.01, MeshAdapt MeshAdapt takes very long at that element size but creates the best mesh of the bunch.
